After chasing a corporate dream for 38 years with nothing more than an old- beat up 1980s work ethic, we (I coerced the rancher aka Keith) decided to convert the ranch tractor shed into a barkery.
We started our pet treat biz with the required legal stuff (she was a corporate MGR and he owns 3 companies) 😂 and the ranch Pyrenees Tribe keeps the pet treat kitchen runnin like a C19 outa gas.
We are older jokesters, standing scared, looking at retirement in a world with technology we will never comprehend.
32 stores and 6 groomers later, our Motto is:
We wanna treat your pet.
Brian Funk has been a professional journalist for more than 30 years and an amateur weirdo all his life. In that time, he has worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, written several award-winning news stories and features, and overseen several award-winning tourism guides. He currently works as editor for The Galax Gazette and The Independence Declaration newspapers in Southwest Virginia. Funk launched Midnight City Press as an imprint for his writing and art, including "Strange Visitors: Small Towns That Welcome the Weird," a travel guide to places that embrace their local cryptids, creatures and legends. He has created a series of “Strange Visitors” art prints that tie into the upcoming book, as well. He also is the writer of the neo-noir fantasy comic, “Enforcer: Tough Luck” (with the first issue available now). Other upcoming projects include the post-apocalyptic Western comic “StormLands,” the horror novel “Lonely Roads Travel Guide,” and a short story collection. Funk lives in Galax, Va., with his wife, Rebecca; their son, Alex; and a menagerie of cats and woodland creatures.

Moon Cat Crafts started as a collective between Broke College Crafters and Witch Wish Trinkets in 2016. Our partners in Broke College Crafters departed from the business in 2017. We dropped the name switch Wish Trinkets and became solely Moon Cat Crafts. We have Traveled a good lot of the east coast and Midwest vending at events and giving back to our local communities. We’ve partnered with film festivals to offer awards for cosplay contests, we’ve raised money for the Tennessee Equality Project and AAPI Women’s Lead network. We are a family owned business with our kids even helping out! The pandemic took a large toll on our business but we haven’t given up. We are working on new and exciting items. Focusing on fandom themes and original pieces. The future is bright. Obstacle & Challenges Dissolving a partnership was difficult as I am a chronically ill crafter. My spouse, brother, and children have stepped in and picked up the passion for creating. The pandemic was also incredibly difficult. We do 98% of our sales in person at events all over the east coast. So suddenly not being able to travel or see anyone in person made things incredibly hard. And let’s face it, social media throttles small business views. So, online sales have been few and far in between. What are you known for? When we first started, I would’ve said we are known for our Bath Fizz. However, now I’d say we are known for our candles and wax melts. They are occasionally fandom themed but are in unique scent combinations. Example: Moon Sugar. This is based off the popular game, The Elder Scrolls. Our scent combo is cheesecake and catnip. We literally can never keep it in stock. It’s sweet and earthy. I’d say our attention to detail and thoughtfulness in creating items sets us apart of big box brands. The Role of Luck Luck brought the business to me. The stress, the excitement, the tears, everything. I often say this business is my baby, and it absolutely is. Persistence keeps us going.
